The Denjoy FreePex apex locator went into stock at our showroom at 610 C. Raymundo Avenue, Maybunga, Pasig City, and we posted about it on June 16 and again on July 30, 2026. It is the compact unit in the Denjoy endodontic range, and it is the one many clinics start with.
What It Measures
An apex locator establishes working length electronically. A file goes into the canal, a lip hook clips to the patient, and the device reads the circuit between them to report how close the file tip is to the apical constriction.
The alternative is estimating from a radiograph and experience. That is how most root canals in the country are still done, and it is also where over instrumentation, underfilling and retreatments come from. A measurement removes the part of the procedure that was previously a judgement call.
What Denjoy Specifies
Denjoy gives the FreePex a self calibrating accuracy figure of 98.4 percent, which is the manufacturer's own number. It uses multi frequency measurement, the method that keeps readings usable whether the canal is wet, dry or holding irrigant, and it gives audible alerts as the file approaches the apex so confirmation does not require looking away from the tooth.
The body is compact, foldable and ergonomic. It folds flat on a bracket table between patients and opens where the operator wants it, which is a practical difference in a small operatory where surface space is the scarce resource.
Who It Suits
The FreePex fits the clinic that does endodontics regularly but not exclusively: a general practice adding accuracy to cases it already treats, or a new clinic equipping a first operatory properly rather than upgrading twice. Clinics wanting a larger touch screen and automatic length recording should look at the i-Pexo instead, which sits alongside it in the same range.
