The Problem It Solves
Working length is the measurement a root canal is built on. Too short and part of the canal is left uninstrumented. Too far and the file passes the apex into tissue that did not need to be disturbed. On August 21, 2026 we posted on the Denjoy iFinder Apex Locator, the device that gives a clinician a second reading on that number at the chair.

How It Works
An apex locator completes an electrical circuit through the patient. One electrode is a lip hook, placed in contact with the oral tissues. The other is a file holder clipped to the endodontic file the clinician is working with.
As the file advances down the canal, the electrical characteristics between those two points change in a predictable way, and they change most sharply as the tip approaches the apical constriction. The device reads that change and reports the file's position on its display.
It is a measurement taken in real time, while the file is in the canal and the hand is still on it. That is the difference from a radiograph, which reports where the file was when the exposure was taken.
What Denjoy Lists on the iFinder
Four points from the product description are worth explaining rather than repeating.
Built-in sound indication. The device signals file progression audibly, so the operator can keep their eyes on the tooth instead of splitting attention between the canal and a screen across the bracket table.
Adjustable apical reference area. The point the device treats as the target can be set, which lets a clinician work to their own preferred reference rather than to a fixed one.
Image and data saving. Measurements can be stored, so a reading belongs to the record rather than to a note on a chart.
Foldable display. The screen angle can be adjusted, which matters more than it sounds when the device is sitting on a cart to one side of an operator who is not going to move their head.
Where It Fits
An apex locator does not replace radiographs, and no responsible clinician treats it as though it does. It reduces how many are needed mid procedure, and it fills the gap between them, which is where most of the file movement in a root canal actually happens.
For a Philippine clinic running a full appointment book, that is time recovered from the least productive part of an endodontic visit: the pause while everyone waits on a film.
