Announced July 21
On July 21, 2026 we announced that the ROSON digital X-ray sensor is now available at DentaSource Direct. It is an intraoral sensor that replaces film in an existing X-ray workflow, and it connects to a computer over USB.
What Changes When Film Goes
The obvious change is time. A film radiograph has to be exposed, carried, processed, dried and read. A digital sensor puts the image on the screen in seconds, which means the dentist is looking at it while the patient is still in the chair and the anaesthetic is still working.
The second change is what you can do with the image once you have it. A digital radiograph can be enlarged, adjusted for contrast, measured, stored against the patient record and sent to a colleague or a specialist without anyone posting an envelope. Film gives you one physical object that can be lost.
The third change is the retake. With film, a badly angled shot is discovered after processing, by which time the patient may have been dismissed. On a sensor it is discovered immediately, and the correction costs one more exposure instead of one more appointment.
The Practical Points
Resolution. A sensor resolves detail that film in an average clinic setup does not reliably show, particularly at the margins of restorations and in the periapical region.
Comfort. The sensor is thin and smooth edged. This is not a cosmetic point. Patient tolerance is what determines whether you get the angle you wanted on the first attempt, especially with children and with strong gag reflexes.
Setup. It is USB connected, so it works with a clinic computer rather than requiring a dedicated imaging installation. There is nothing to plumb and nothing to mount.
What It Does Not Change
The sensor replaces the film, not the X-ray source or the operator. Positioning, angulation and collimation still decide the quality of the image, and the clinic's radiation protection practice does not change because the receptor became electronic. A digital sensor makes a well taken radiograph available faster. It does not make a badly taken one good.
Seeing It Work
The sensor is on the floor at our showroom, 610 C. Raymundo Avenue, Maybunga, Pasig City, open Monday to Sunday, and demonstrations are free. The useful thing to do is bring the question you actually have, which for many clinics is whether it will run alongside the X-ray unit and the practice software you already own.
