A Portable Unit, Announced July 18
On July 18, 2026 we announced that the ROSON RoRay handheld X-ray is now available at DentaSource Direct as the exclusive Philippine distributor for ROSON.
A handheld X-ray does the same job as a wall mounted intraoral unit, but the operator carries it to the patient instead of moving the patient to a dedicated room. That single difference changes what a small clinic can do with the space it has.
What It Is
The RoRay is a self contained intraoral X-ray source with the tube, the shielding and the controls built into one handheld body. There is no wall arm and no fixed installation, so it does not tie up a room and it is not fixed to one operatory.
Exposure is set on a digital display panel on the unit itself rather than on a separate control box, so the operator selects the setting at the point of use and can see what was selected before the exposure is made.
The body is built to be light enough and balanced enough to hold steady through a full list of patients. That matters more than it sounds. A handheld unit that is tiring to hold gets held badly, and a unit held badly produces retakes.
Who It Suits
Three kinds of practice tend to benefit most.
Clinics with no spare room. If there is no space to give up to a fixed X-ray room, a handheld unit removes the requirement entirely.
Multi chair clinics. One handheld unit can serve several operatories instead of walking patients back and forth to a single fixed room, which keeps the chairs turning.
Clinics that work outside their own walls. Outreach work, school programmes and satellite days are all far simpler when the imaging travels with the dentist.
Radiation Safety Still Applies
A handheld unit is still an X-ray source and is used under the same rules as any other. The operator holds the unit behind its shield, positioning and collimation follow the same principles as a fixed unit, and the clinic's usual protective measures for the patient and the operator do not change because the machine got smaller.
