The Program
The Endodontic Society of the Philippines, in partnership with the PDA San Pablo City Chapter, held a Twinning Seminar and Workshop on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Hiraya Function Hall, Farconville Subdivision, Barangay San Francisco, San Pablo City.
Registration was offered as lectures only, or lectures with the workshop, with an early-bird rate until February 14. The workshop had limited slots. Registration was extended in the final week, after the early-bird rate had closed.
Should It Stay or Should It Go?
Dr. Grace Ellen S. Dey carried the endodontic half of the day. Her lecture, Should It Stay or Should It Go? A Systematic Approach to Failing Root Canals for the General Practitioner, dealt with the decision every general dentist faces when a treated tooth comes back with a lesion or a symptom: retreat, refer for surgery, or extract and plan an implant. The systematic part is what makes it useful in a general practice, a set of questions about the tooth, the previous treatment and the patient that leads to the same answer each time.
Her second session, Mastering Shaping and Filling Techniques, was the hands-on workshop: a lecture and workshop on root canal therapy, with participants working through canal shaping and obturation on their own blocks.
Airflow Biofilm Clearance
Dr. Lilli Ann D. Fernando gave the hygiene lecture, Airstream Biofilm Clearance: A Race to Dental Health, on air-polishing as an alternative to conventional scaling and polishing. Guided biofilm therapy, in which the biofilm is disclosed, removed with a fine powder in a stream of air and water, and only then is any remaining calculus scaled, has moved from specialist periodontal practices into general clinics over the last few years. It is faster for the patient and gentler on enamel and implant surfaces, and it changes what a hygiene appointment needs in the room.
Why a Twinning Program
Specialty societies bring speakers and a curriculum; a local chapter brings a room full of general practitioners who need exactly that curriculum. The twinning format lets the two meet outside Manila. San Pablo dentists got a full day of endodontics and hygiene without the drive, and the Endodontic Society met a room it does not usually reach.
The chapter followed this program with a twinning webinar on March 18 with the PDA Camarines Norte Chapter. Read that story.
